Hello world!

Hello world!

Welcome to Spoon & Sky: Simple Tools for Joyful Structure, Connection, and Creative Chaos (The Good Kind)

Hello and welcome!
I’m Lily Luz—a sculptor, artist, and mother of two muddy-kneed, highly energetic little boys. I live in the rolling hills (and occasional chaos) of the UK, and I’m thrilled you’ve found your way here to Spoon & Sky—a blog born from gluey fingers, half-eaten rice cakes, and an enduring hope for more calm and connection in early childhood.

So what exactly is Spoon & Sky?
It’s a cozy corner of the internet for parents, carers, and curious creatives who want to bring more intention, imagination, and gentle structure into their days with young children. It’s also home to a curated shop of beautiful, printable digital activities, thoughtfully designed to inspire creativity, connection, and—dare I say it?—a bit of calm for us grown-ups, too.

The Origin Story (Because Every Good Blog Needs One)

Like many of you, I found myself knee-deep in parenting books, toddler socks, and unsolicited advice. I knew I wanted to raise kind, curious, grounded children—but I also wanted to keep a sense of myself in the process. I wanted fewer plastic toys and more moments of presence. Less overstimulation, more “a-ha!” moments. And I wanted support—not a Pinterest-perfect parenting doctrine, but simple, beautiful tools that actually work in real homes, with real children (and real messes).

So I started creating.
As an artist, I turned to what I knew: materials, process, rhythm, and play. I began developing easy-to-use crafts, open-ended activities, and mini-routines that supported our family’s wellbeing—without crushing our spirits in a cloud of glitter.

I called it Spoon & Sky.

Because some days, all you need is a spoon to stir the paint, and other days, you just need to lie in the grass and look up.

What You’ll Find Here

1. Crafts & Activities That Don’t Involve 27 Steps or a Blowtorch

Let’s be honest—some “easy” kids’ crafts require the fine motor skills of a neurosurgeon and a supply list that reads like a hostage letter. Not here.

At Spoon & Sky, you’ll find crafts and activities that are:

  • Open-ended – Think process over product.
  • Accessible – You already have most of what you need.
  • Joyful – For the child and the adult.
  • Quietly educational – We’re not here to cram facts, but kids do learn through play (and a well-placed sorting activity).

Whether it’s sensory trays, sculpting with air-dry clay, or story prompts with puppets made from cereal boxes, every idea is designed to invite creativity without demanding perfection.

2. Parenting Tips for Calmer, More Centred Days

I don’t believe in perfect parenting, but I do believe in gentle structure, mindful rhythms, and sometimes… just walking away to drink your tea while it’s still warm.

This blog is a space where we talk about:

  • Managing transitions and meltdowns (theirs and ours)
  • Building nourishing routines without becoming the Snack Police
  • Saying “yes” to play without saying “no” to sanity
  • Finding creative ways to reconnect when the day’s gone sideways

It’s not about doing more. It’s about doing what matters—and letting the rest go.

3. A Digital Shop That Feels Like a Warm Hug for Your Day

The Spoon & Sky shop offers downloadable resources designed to spark creativity and ease for families—perfect for rainy afternoons, slow mornings, or those in-between moments when you’re not quite ready for screen time but also can’t face another round of “Let’s pretend to be dinosaurs in Tesco.”

Inside the shop, you’ll find:

  • Printable activity packs
  • Themed creative prompts
  • Mini-routines for calmer mornings & transitions
  • Visual schedules for little ones (with big feelings)
  • Play-based learning printables with an artistic twist

Everything is created by me, often tested by my kids (brutally honest critics), and designed to be printed and used with zero stress. No fancy equipment, no subscriptions, just beautiful tools to make your day smoother and more connected.

Why “Simple Tools for Joyful Structure”?

Because structure doesn’t have to mean strict routines or laminated charts with points systems. And joy doesn’t have to mean being “on” all the time or building an obstacle course in your lounge at 7 AM.

“Simple tools for joyful structure” means:

  • Knowing what comes next
  • Feeling safe in the rhythm of your day
  • Making room for creativity without chaos
  • Letting go of the guilt and grasping what’s good

It’s the art of doing just enough. It’s the magic of a craft that turns into a story that turns into giggles. It’s a spoon stirring paint. It’s a sky full of possibilities.

A Note on Creativity (For You, Not Just the Kids)

As a sculptor and creative human, I believe the world is made better by people who make things—whether that’s clay animals or cheese sandwiches. Creativity isn’t a luxury. It’s a life force. And it’s something that parents often lose track of in the busyness of early childhood.

So consider this your gentle nudge to make a mess sometimes, for the joy of it. Whether that’s drawing with your child, picking up a forgotten hobby, or just remembering that you, too, are a maker. Not just of meals or appointments—but of memories, moments, and a whole new human.

(And if you’re really lucky: a glitter-covered greeting card that smells like PVA glue.)

A Final Word (Before Someone Needs a Snack)

You’re doing great.

Truly. Whether today was a day of dreamy play or chaotic negotiations over sock choices, you are showing up. That’s enough. Spoon & Sky is here to support you—not to make you feel like you need to do more, but to remind you that even small moments can be meaningful. Even simple activities can shift the tone of the whole day.

Thank you for being here.
I can’t wait to grow this space with you—one joyful, messy, creative moment at a time.

With paint on my sleeves and love in my heart,
Lily Luz
